Clinical Pilates
Exercises to treat injuries by focusing on posture, core stability, and pain management.
What Is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is essentially Pilates with a physiotherapist’s expertise woven into it. It takes the traditional studio-style Pilates approach and tailors it into a personalised training programme that suits your specific injuries, goals and body type, moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach.
It can be thought of as customised resistance training through Pilates with the goal of physical rehabilitation.

Who is Clinical Pilates For and How Does It Work?
It is suitable for everyone, including:
- Beginners
- The elderly
- Expectant mothers
- Individuals recovering from pain or injuries
- Anyone looking to improve mobility
It typically begins with a thorough body assessment, such as a movement screening session, to identify the ways in which the body shows restriction and what corrections or adjustments are truly needed.
Benefits of Clinical Pilates
Improved Posture
Stronger Core Stability
Better Balance and Control
Reduced Strain and Tension
Long-term Strength and Alignment
Clinical Pilates is also integrated into our Scoliosis-Specific Integrated Exercise programmes (SSIE) when working with patients who have scoliosis. This allows us to introduce a variety of physical stimuli, more functional movement patterns and a more enjoyable experience throughout their rehabilitation journey.

Collaborative Care
Physiotherapists often collaborate with:
- Medical doctors, for diagnosis and referrals
- Occupational therapists, to support return-to-work or daily activities
- Chiropractors, to ensure joint alignment complements muscle rehabilitation
- Trainers or coaches, to transition clients into fitness safely
