What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is essentially Pilates with a physiotherapist’s expertise woven into it. It takes the traditional studio-style Pilates and tailors it into a personalized training programe that suits your specific injuries, goals, and body type—moving away from the one-size-fits-all approach. This can be thought of as customized resistance training via Pilates with the goal of physical rehabilitation.
It typically begins with a thorough body assessment, like a movement screening session, to identify the ways in which our patients’ bodies are shown to be restricted, and what corrections or adjustments he/she truly needs. Using evidence-based techniques, Clinical Pilates supports rehabilitation, injury prevention, postural correction, flexibility, and core strength. It’s suitable for everyone—from beginners and the elderly to expectant mothers, those recovering from pain or injuries, or simply anyone looking to move and feel better.
Clinical Pilates are also integrated into our Scoliosis-Specific Integrated Exercise programs (SSIE) when we manage patients with scoliosis. This allows us to provide various types of physical stimulus, introduce more functional movements and give them a more enjoyable experience throughout their rehabilitation journey!
