What is
Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care utilises knowledge of the human nervous system to optimise the way your body move and functions. This is done through the mobilisation of spinal segments and other joints in the body, called adjustments. Think of your body as a suspension bridge: if the tension wires of the suspension bridge are not well synchronised, it can lead to poor function of the suspension bridge and possible breakdown. Chiropractors help restore balance and mobility where things have become restricted or misaligned—most commonly in the spine, but also in other joints.

Using precise, hands-on techniques, chiropractors aim to improve movement, reduce discomfort, and support your body’s natural ability to heal and regulate itself. Chiropractic isn’t about “cracking bones” or “pushing things back into place” but more so about guiding your body toward optimal mechanical and neurological function.

This happens because a spinal adjustment is not just “cracking” — it’s a targeted, neurologically rich stimulus that:

  • Refines how your brain and spinal cord communicate with muscles and joints

  • Modulates pain through natural neurotransmitter systems

  • Can help facilitate a calmer, more balanced stress response

  • Sometimes even help you sleep better!

The effect of Chiropractic adjustments on hormonal regulation and immune response are still early in scientific validation, however the strongest evidence lies in neurological and functional outcomes, such as improved movement control, reduced pain, and better stress adaptation.

Which is why people often seek chiropractic care for:

  • Lower back or neck pain

  • Postural imbalances

  • Headaches linked to muscular tension

  • Mobility issues or stiffness

  • Chronic tension from sedentary habits or repetitive strain

The care is conservative and non-invasive—often used as a first-line or complementary approach to musculoskeletal issues before considering more intensive or invasive interventions.

Chiropractors often collaborate with physiotherapists, GPs, orthopaedic specialists, massage therapists, and occupational therapists to offer integrated care. For example:

  • A physiotherapist might strengthen muscles after a chiropractor improves joint mobility.

  • A GP might refer a patient for conservative spinal care before prescribing medication or surgery.

  • An occupational therapist can refer a patient for adjustments if they deem it necessary to improve the patient’s neurological rehabilitation outcomes

At Baseline Health, Chiropractic care is used as a tool we use to support our clients’ health by helping relieve pain, improve joint and spine mobility, optimize nervous system function and ultimately help them move better so they can stay active and enjoy their lives.
